Thailand’s ‘Festival of Lights’
Thailand can be magically wondrous place, and during November you can see loy krathong (Thailand’s festival of lights). This is a time of year where the waterways around Thailand become alive with candlelight.
If you are sitting at a high viewpoint during loy krathong you will be treated to a truly wonderful spectacle. And this is certainly one festival not to be missed.
There is a very big Thai belief in luck, and you will see Thai people doing things for good luck and merit in their daily lives. The belief in loy krathong is to bring luck.
As the Sun goes down You will see many people with their krathong, (this is a little boat with candles and some incense sticks Inside it), heading towards the beach to release their krathong onto the water.
The belief being that if the krathong floats away from you, the coming year will bring good luck and Fortune, however if it floats back towards the shore, then perhaps your luck might not be as good as you had wished.
This is an amazing time to be in Thailand, and everywhere you go you will find people deep in prayer. The atmosphere is magical and very peaceful.
